Movies in a Minute: 'Spell' & 'Come Play'

On Halloween weekend, movie critic Bruce Miller says “Spell” is a scary movie amped up with moments that will keep you housebound no matter what. It has its chills but they’re provided by the oh-so-good Loretta Devine. When she says she’s going to work her magic, believe her. She does. Also this week, “Come Play,” a cautionary tale about a boy and the monster who lurks in his electronic devices, and the original Halloween movie is back in theaters.

“Spell” may not be the most frightening horror film of the season, but it could make you rethink those vacation plans, particularly in areas where folks don’t even consider social distancing.
