FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 30, 2026) – The City’s Public Works Department installed yellow reflective delineator posts at the intersection of Fall Hill Avenue and Bridgewater Street on Oct. 1, 2026. This improvement is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to enhance roadway safety and traffic operations.
“Safety is always a primary consideration when we evaluate changes to our transportation network,” said City of Fredericksburg Public Works Director William Morris.
The installation supports a recommended modification to convert the Fall Hill Avenue and Bridgewater Street intersection to a right-in, right-out configuration, addressing a recurring safety concern caused by vehicles on Fall Hill Avenue stacking beyond the intersection and blocking left-turn movements onto, and from, Bridgewater Street.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as we implement this improvement and will continue to evaluate transportation conditions throughout the City to identify opportunities to make our streets safer for everyone,” said Morris.
This recommendation stems from a recent operational and safety study conducted under Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Project Pipeline program, a planning initiative aimed at identifying cost-effective solutions for transportation needs across the state.
The study evaluated a segment of Fall Hill Avenue from Washington Avenue to Mary Washington Boulevard, analyzing pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and access management needs.
Drivers will continue to have access to Bridgewater Street through alternate routes via Wellford and Charles Street.
Residents with questions or concerns about the project may contact the Public Works Department.
