(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) Aug. 31, 2026 – The City of Fredericksburg will begin a storm drainage improvements project at the intersection of Lewis and Sophia Street this week, weather permitting.
This project involves the replacement of failing storm drainage infrastructure with upgraded storm pipes and an inlet to improve system capacity, reliability and long-term service life. The project’s contractor is DiPardo & Cole, LLC and will be responsible for all construction activities and construction site safety.
Traffic impacts
During the construction period, it may be necessary to partially or fully close the Sophia Street and Lewis Street intersection to traffic and detour around the work zone during these periods of construction. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers around the work zone. Please watch for detour signage and choose an alternative route when possible.
Patrons will be able to access the Fredericksburg branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library parking lot at the Sophia driveway located north of the Sophia Street and Lewis Street intersection. Drivers traveling northbound on Sophia will need to follow the detour route.
The City of Fredericksburg is committed to investing in infrastructure that meets the needs of all community members.
