UMW cross country teams each place 10th at UR Spider Alumni Open
The University of Mary Washington men's and women's cross country teams each opened the 2026 season on Saturday at the University of Richmond Spider Alumni Open, and both teams finished in 10th place in their respective races.
The men's race went off first, and freshman Evan Plath finished 60th overall to lead the Eagles, with a time of 20:42.5 on the 6,000 meter course. For the women, two-time NCAA Championship competitor Lily Hoffman led the way on the 4K course, finishing in 44th place with a time of 15:42.4. Junior Addy Wallin finished 87th at 17:20, with senior Eyaya Fletcher taking 98th place at 17:42.5. Sophomore Mattea Ryan finished 106th at 18:05.9, and freshman Lee Spickard rounded out the Eagles' top five at 111th at 18:29.5.
Both teams will return to action in two weeks at the South Regional Preview in Earlysville, Va.
