Culpeper’s Tourism and Town Economic Development Office is pleased to announce the addition of Takirah Johnson to its team as social media & administrative specialist.
In this role, Johnson will support the department’s tourism and economic development marketing efforts through social media management, digital content creation, administrative support, event promotion and community engagement. The position will help expand the department’s ability to create timely, engaging content that showcases Culpeper’s businesses, attractions, events and visitor experiences while supporting broader destination marketing and economic development initiatives.
Johnson is a May 2026 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing with a concentration in product and brand management. Her background includes experience in digital marketing, social media management, content creation, brand development, communications and event support.

While attending VCU, Johnson served as marketing lead, events and office assistant with VCU Engineering Career Services. In that role, she led the creation and design of more than 100 digital slides per semester, managed mass email campaigns reaching audiences of up to 3,400 and supported high-visibility career events. She also served as social media director for the Adobe Club at VCU, where her work developing targeted social media content and analyzing account performance contributed to a 264 percent increase in profile activity over a three-month period.
Johnson also gained professional marketing experience as a marketing intern with SilverEdge Government Solutions, where she developed social media content, supported networking event promotion and designed and implemented a new brand guide to strengthen companywide brand consistency.
Her education also included international study experiences focused on tourism, branding and consumer behavior. During an ecotourism program in Costa Rica, Johnson completed a research-based consulting project for Finca Kobo Chocolate Farm & Botanical Garden, conducting visitor research and developing recommendations to strengthen its ecotourism offerings. She also studied the business of fashion in Milan, Italy, exploring the role of culture, storytelling, design and consumer experience in global brand development.

Johnson’s addition will further strengthen the department’s capacity to support its growing portfolio of tourism marketing campaigns, economic development initiatives, events and community partnerships.
